  • Research Areas: The Cybersecurity curriculum provides students with a broad foundation of technical abilities and understanding.Adding a Cybersecurity program arms students with specific, core skills needed to be successful in cybersecurity positions (e.g. network defense monitoring, penetration testing, incident responder).This degree has been designated by the National Security Agency (NSA) & Department of Homeland Security (DHS) as meeting their specifications for cyber defense education. This is a new degree program that will start being offered in the Fall 2019 semester. This program was previously referred to as a BS in Information Technology with a concentration in Cybersecurity. Other degrees that will be offered starting in the Fall 2019 semester include a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity Engineering degree and a Bachelor of Science in Cyber Operation degree.

Program Overview:

The mission of the School of Computer and Cyber Sciences is to provide high-engagement, state-of-the-art education and research across its Computer Science, Information Technology, and Cybersecurity disciplines. Our school’s vision includes becoming a national leader in cybersecurity. We are already a designated Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense, sponsored by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. We’re located at the center of many academic, governmental and corporate partnerships critical to the nation’s cyber security, including the U.S. Army Cyber Center of Excellence, the National Security Agency, Savannah River National Laboratory, and soon the U.S. Army Cyber Command.

The State of Georgia strengthened its position as a national leader in cybersecurity by investing in the future of this critical industry with the creation of the Georgia Cyber Center. Located in Downtown Augusta, the Georgia Cyber Center is a $100 million, state-of-the-art, 320,000-square-foot facility, bringing together public and private sector organizations collaborating to fulfill the cybersecurity workforce demand. The School of Computer and Cyber Sciences headquarters is located in the Hull-McKnight Building of the Georgia Cyber Center that opened its doors on July 10, 2018. Phase two of the Center, the Shaffer-MacCartney Building, is on schedule for completion in December 2018.

Our school offers Bachelor of Science degrees in Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, and Cyber Operations. Our newest undergraduate program is in Cybersecurity Engineering, the first in Georgia, with the first freshman class starting the in the fall of 2019. We also offer a Masters degree in Information Security Management and we are developing a doctoral program leading to the PhD degree. Our school is embarking on a path of unprecedented growth to become a comprehensive research and education college, with substantial increases in faculty, and graduate and undergraduate enrollment.
