John Lang brings decades of experience supporting businesses, philanthropies and community organizations to the Protect Our Power initiative. He has held several Board of Directors positions in New York, Connecticut, and Virginia. Currently he is a Fellow of the Casperson School of Graduate Studies, Drew University, Director and Secretary of Young America, Board member of The Yacht Club of Hilton Head Island, and is active with a project to improve the Gateway Corridor to Hilton Head Island, a $250 million project.
Mr. Lang served as Corporate Treasurer at Aetna Life and Casualty Insurance in Hartford, CT and Managing Director of Investment Banking at Merrill Lynch in New York, NY. Mr. Lang’s expertise in the financial services and insurance sector align with his mission to help protect the resiliency of the grid system. Mr. Lang sees the economic impact an attack on the grid would have on the country, specifically the economy, if the US were the victim of a major attack to the grid or power outage.
Community service is a passion for Mr. Lang. Since moving to South Carolina he has held multiple roles on the island, including Board of Directors of the Hilton Head Symphony, Commodore of The Yacht Club of Hilton Head Island, a lecturer at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (University of South Carolina Beaufort branch of a national adult education organization),l, and Board member of VanLandingham Rotary Club. Mr. Lang has a long record of business and academic honors, including serving as a fellow for the Yale School of Management, Director of Columbia Business School’s Alumni Board and Director of the Insurance Center.
Mr. Lang received his undergraduate degree from Southern Connecticut State University and an MS in finance from Columbia Graduate School of Business an MA from Albertus Magnus College and a Doctorate from Drew University.
He lives on Hilton Head Island with his wife Carol. Lang has six children and 11 grandchildren.
